I am a lifelong 4th generation Austinite now living in the Rainey Street neighborhood with my wife who is also a lifelong Austin resident. We fully support the cap & cut proposal for the I35 corridor. We love Austin & regret very much how divisive the I35 Expressway has been for our city. I do not know of any proposal in recent history which would be more cohesive for Austin & beautify our downtown and create a much more welcoming entrance to Austin. The benefits of more usable urban space would be well worth the cost in the long run. Please think of how beautiful Boston has become with its underground highway system. Another very positive aspect would be the utilization of the Holly Power plant area as a beautiful Lakeside Park connected to the rest of the Butler Hike & Bike trails being upgraded now.

Thank you for your efforts to improve & beautify our wonderful city.
Furthermore, I just spoke to a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas who run the French Legation Museum on San Marcos Street just east of I35 between 7th & 8th Streets. They are another State wide organization who would benefit from this proposal & they just recently purchased property from the Franzetti Family to use as their new state headquarters & museum adjacent to the Historic French Legation Museum. We shared your link with them.
